The archeological excavations were mainly carried out in the 4th site, in the territory of the citadel. The remains of the 50-60cm wide and 70-80cm high river pebble wall were found in the north-western sector of the 4th site, in the medieval layer in the squares 14R, 14S.

The archeological works in the Shamkir town were continued in the 4th site of the citadel territory. In the north-eastern squares of this site there were continued the remains of the room, situated between the northern wall of the monumental building and the narrow street. The northern wall of this room, where the doorway is located, is 106cm wide. It is covered with 3.5–4cm plaster from outside.

The Results of the Archeological Excavations in Shamkir Town in 2011

Stationary, wide-scale archaeological researches, covered five excavations (the 4th–8th sites) were conducted in Shamkir town in 2011 within the joint project of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of ANAS, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Public Union on Development of Regions.
