The Main Results of the Archeological Excavations in Shamkir town in 2013

The Shamkir archeological expedition carried out the archeological researches in the 4th and 5th sites of Shamkir town.
For the further studies of the complex with arches, attached to the town wall, the southern half of the lower level of the 5th site has been extended to the East. As a result of the archeological researches there has been uncovered the continuation of the wall remains, which retreats from the first arc for 12m.

September - October 2013

Shamkir archeological expedition continued the researches in the citadel area, in the 4th site. The study of the monumental building deserves attention. In the north-western corner of the room №7 there were found five kyups - two of them are unbroken, while the rest were damaged. Multiple fired bricks were found while clearing up the room.

Julu – August 2013

The expedition continued the researches in the 4th site of the Shamkir town. This site was extended for 4 metres more. In the new squares of the site the 19th century upper cultural layer is 40-60cm thick. In the squares 16K and 16J the layer is 1m thick.
